There are five Atype font groups, each determined by specific characteristics:

  1. Biometric: Resembling "biometrics," they draw from biological measurements for identification.

  2. Alteration: These fonts maintain a consistent base shape but use additional alterations to create different glyphs.

  3. Modular: A broad category, as all Atype fonts are technically modular.

  4. Patterned: Glyphs in this group are constructed within a specific pattern by highlighting parts of their design path.

  5. Distorted: Similar to "Alteration Fonts," they retain the same base shape but create glyphs by distorting it.
